Pod guest number five….Kim Gould, MS, LMFT!

Kim Gould is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in treating eating disorders and body image issues, and is a part of the group practice Calm Counseling Austin located in Austin, TX. Kim is also a Certified Personal Trainer and former Barre Instructor with a passion for helping people to restore and rebuild their relationships with exercise and movement. She is the founder of Autonomy Movement, LLC: A body-positive, size-inclusive studio space that is opening soon! The intention is to create a holistic space for individuals to explore and restore current relationships with their bodies, movement, and what comprises personal definitions of “health” free from diet culture and self-punitive behaviors.

We delve deep into the detrimental effects that diet culture has on our relationships with food, exercise and body image. We discuss the fatphobia and shaming that occurs in our society and how to consciously make efforts to de-stigmatize weight and instead focus on respect and inclusivity.

Kim was incredibly passionate, eloquent and knowledgeable. We feel so lucky to share such an important topic with our listeners and hope that it opens doors for further conversations.

We also chat about:

  • The mission and creation of Autonomy Movement LLC.
  • How to reach out to a loved one suffering from disordered eating and body image issues.
  • Why it is important to not only give your own body respect, but to be an ally for all bodies and sizes.
